IBC Bioponics System - Part 5

Aquaponics system - hasnt quite evolved from a bioponic system yet. The phenomenal growth im witnessing off very little input is something I want to experiment with further. The challenge now is to see how much i can grow with as little input as possible to create a super efficient food system that is reliable and low maintenance.

should really get the plate milled not welded as welds can break, milled plate will not. Safety is paramount. ok fir initial test though. And yes, I realise this is 12 years old, but people are still adapting drum to disc brakes.
awesome!
I build one just like it lol
Cool build! Looks a lot better than the stock body, appears to have more flex too! Bravo!
Much better performance overall, wider, lower, more clearance, better control over steering, zero wheel hop when climbing, super low crawl ratio and most importantly, better aesthetics
Where’s the body from
I designed it.
This is amazing. For a beginner could you keep everything “stock” on the ax24 and just swap the body? I’ve ever messed with rc before.
I could design it to suit stock AX24 parts if there is enough demand.
Update on this, I now have available a body kit that fits the stock AX24 chassis, check out my etsy shop, link in the description.
Nice build! Where’s the body from?
I designed it, based off your typical pick up body.
@@richoz27 Oh nice! 3D printed?
@@SlimHobbies Yes, resin printed.
Looks cool
good..
Are you still doing bioponics? Any updates?
Yes, Ill be doing a 10 year update video soon, thanks.
Hi Sir. I hope you can answer my question. If you use a TDS meter to measure the conductivity (mS/cm) or nutrient concentration (ppm) of the nutrient solution in the bin, which value could you achieve? I am working on a significant project, and I am thinking of applying this system to my project.
I couldnt tell you (sorry for late reply, I dont seem to get notifications), im not that scientific with this system, I use the plants as indicators of health. I recently added red claw to my water tank, they seemed to be doing fine but we had a very cold winter and many didnt survive. I am going to look at maybe adding tilapia or maybe a different type of crustacean that can withstand colder temps. Ill be doing a 10 year update vid soon and will try to cover as many aspects of the system as possible.
Hmm not sure about the rocks, but looks like it was handling the pavement okay
Awesome Setup! I know I am late to game on seeing this video, but I have my C303 and BADLY need Disc Brakes. I had enough scary moments due to poor drum brakes just not keeping up with my driving style. Cheers mate, I hope your still cruising this rig!
Have you still got the system running?
Yes its been running non stop since 2012, have replaced the pump once.
@@richoz27 Wow, amazing. Want to build something similar. A bit smaller though as I do not have so much space. Thanks for sharing the videos.
Thanks for sharing. Great system. Big thumbs up from The Netherlands.
1uz nice choice
How often and how much do you add bio to the system?
Once a month or so, if the water is looking too clear you know you need to add more fertilizer.
richoz27 I was looking at doing an aquaponic system but like the Idea of no fish to die lol
Hello. I would really like to know more about the procees You used to convert model into tubes. Can You please share contact with me?
Hey there im really sorry for the late reply I dont seem to get any notifications. You have probably moved on from this but Ill explain anyway for anyone else. I created the tubes with the notches in solidworks with weldments. I then converted the solids from this into sheetmetal and flattened them out. There was no way to directly program the laser from this information so I printed out a template on paper and attached this to the tube, the jig you see to hold the tube was designed so that I could accurately place each tube and the template for repeatable accuracy. We then manually created the tool path based on the template.
Nice setup..I need to understand how you are using one pump for pumping water and supplying air via the venturi.Does the pump have two water outlets?
That's correct, i have a tee just up from the outlet, straight through feeds the beds and the other feeds the venturi. I've also directed the outlet toward the pump inlet to help keep the inlet clear of debri.
@@richoz27 Thanks you mean the air outlet has been directed to the pump inlet? How many watts is the pump?
@@henrynyabuto4892 the aerated water flows across the screened inlet on the pump to help keep it clean. 100w pump off eBay.
I just built a set of Volvo portals and slid under my landcruiser, but having issues finding parts for the hydraulic setup for steering. Can you share more of what you did?
How do you prepare nutrients.can u plis elaborate??
Check out Part 6, i got into it there. ruclips.net/video/OsJPB4Lr280/видео.html
Love the venturi. What parts did you use ? Didnt get a good look at it
Matt Dawson I just drilled a hole in a threaded plug so that 1/2" irrigation tube fits through tight into the tee, then adjust how far it sticks in until you get good aeration.
Cheers man. Looked like it worked a beauty. I see that was a few years ago you still into it ?
Matt Dawson of course, the setup has been flawless, replaced the original pump thats all. It's been running continuously since I did these videos, with very little maintenance.
@@richoz27 how does the little bit of worm castings and manure feed the whole system? do you ever add more? Is the nutrition more dependent on the health of the bacterial colony absorbing carbon from the atmosphere? Do the bacteria live in the H20 or mostly in the worm casting set up. Im curious what the limitations are, e.g. what factors influenence the fertilitiy of the H20, whether the nutritional content is limited by inputs, H20 dilution, aeration, or whether there are no limits and it can be expanded. Im thinking of interconnecting IBC totes to make a larger, connected system but it my be unneccessary judging the productivty coming out of only 1/2 tote resivoir.
@@mobiusdesigns some good questions i cant answer. As there is very little nutrients in the medium, plant health is obviously reliant on fertilizer input. I also add sea weed liquid fertilizer and rock dust. Aeration is to encourage "good" bacteria growth. Ive wanted to test nutrient content of the water but i have no obvious deficiencies, it continues to produce a lot of veg.
This cracked me up "so um once every 2-3 weeks I'll just piss in the system as well just to keep the nitrates up". 5:08
bloody legend mate. that system with the bio water through the worm farm compost is bloody genius. cheers for the info. thumbs up and a subscription from me
hey great system. this clip is a few years old now, is it still going strong? how did the rock Mellon turn out, did it fruit? cheers for sharing!
It produced fruit but was very small, i think rock melon prefers drier conditions, i wouldn't try growing it again in a bioponic system
check your micronutriets
thanks man i'll look it up. btw .. what type are the pipes you use for the in/outlet? do you know who manufacture those?
really enjoyed the AP series . do you have a video where you explain about your worm bin? i wanna go into vermicomposting myself and it looks like you know your shit.. so any explanation about the layering of the bin would be appreciated .
Worm bins are really simple, better to just buy one but not to hard to make one yourself. My ones are called "can o worms". Basically put your worms in and add food to the top layer, as that becomes full move it to the next layer down and fill again, usually by the time you fill the top up again the layer underneath should be mostly vermicompost which you can spread on your garden. All you are doing is repeating this process. One of my bins is over 10 years old and I have never added more worms to it, just food scraps. Because liquid fertilizer is more useful to me I just pour a bucket of water through the bin and collect the tea (once a week or so), this will wash some of the vermicompost through. I only clean out the compost probably once a year. When harvesting solid compost, the best way to separate worms from compost is to place half a rock melon or some other irresistible food in the compost layer, after a few days most of the worms will migrate to the rock melon and you just lift it out into the top layer then harvest the compost almost worm free. The only thing to note is keep them in the shade, summers get hot where I am and a black plastic bin will cook your worms if they are in direct sunlight.
Nice build! Do any ultra 4 kind of stuff?
+JustonianInstitute Thanks, yes I am working on an ultra 4 project at the moment.
what are you running for a gearbox?
+chitstirer1 A340
once every 2-3 weeks i'll just piss in the system as well. hahahaha
Snipzzgost Free source of nitrogen and water, its all about the sustainability :)
Charcoal works great, I never put fish in it, its fed worm juice/castings, seaweed extract, rock dust and urine, that's all it needs. Unless you really want to grow fish, IMO they are more trouble than they are worth.
Is the charcoal that u used with, succeed? And how many fish u would put?? Its very good job
Nice! What do you use for bioponics? What mixture of organic matter or whatever do you put in the water. I haven't tried that method yet, been using some goldfish to get my small system rolling, but I think I'd like to give it a whirl sometime.
Fair enough.. there's nothing wrong with "bioponics" I prefer aquaponics... because I like to eat fish... each to their own...
No need to wait for the "spawning season".... new season Jades from QLD... are available now... and new season Silver Perch 20-25mm should be available in the next week or two... I've been delivering advanced Silver Perch 70-100mm all over Sydney and the Central Coast for the last month.... indeed I ran nearly 500 up to Gosford/Wyong last weekend... Why didn't ya call... lol
great video,, I was just wondering if a tgb111 rear axle has internal parts that can be swapped with the Salsbury axles. Whats the max power and tyre size someone would consider with these axles?
Interesting video, i have some of these portals i am planning on putting under a defender, do you have any pics of what you did to the hub exactly? i want to do the same but use a land rover stud pattern instead. Where did you find your axles? they seem very rare to find here in Australia, also interested to see what you are running these under?
richoz27, I realize your post is a just a little dated but I would definitely be interested in the DXF files for the mounting plates; if they are still around?? If so, could you please email them to volvotgb (at) gmail (dot) com?? Many thanks for your time and info! Great vid btw!! Thank you for posting it! -Josh

Getting it worked out I see.
And you wanted to quiet it down....sounds sweet...looks like fun.
Thanks i already laser cut my bracket from 16mm plate i chse a deeper hat than yours in order to fit the huge GM calipers i also need to fad a spacer so every thing fits ,with my setup i only can fit 16,5 or 17 inch wheels, yes it will be going on my disco.
Nice ,i am working on the same idea but using GM bolt patern and vented 13inch discs

i'll be interested to see how the portals hold up with the abuse that motor can put out! do you have any vids of this thing in action?
so you just flipped the axles..? im rebuilding my buggy with that motor and toyota 9.5 inch axles custom front. but im not smart enough to know how to make it go forward lol 5 reverse gears and 1 forward would kinda suck lol
how much did that cost to build? +looks great
